Pleasing Read!
England 1815

THE DEVILISH PLEASURES OF A DUKE is an enjoyable read! Adrian Ruxley is everything to love about romance heroes and one can't help but love proper and sometimes stuffy Emma Boscostle! Their tale of love is one you'll enjoy, especially if you're following the Boscastle clan!
The Devlish Pleasures of a Duke
Adrian Ruxley is usually very easygoing, but he cannot walk away from
a lady being attacked. Seeing the very proper Emma Boscastle being
manhandled sends Adrian's protective instincts into overdrive and a
scuffle ensues. Although Alex saved the lovely Emma, he is left
wounded and must recover at Emma's home. Delighted to be so close to
Emma, Adrian finds her irresistible.

Although Emma is very tempted by the handsome Adrian, if she succumbs
to her passion for him, her family would be outraged. Emma would need
to keep her affair with Adrian a secret from her overprotective
brothers and from the rest of society as well. Such a secret would be
almost impossible to keep from Emma's very observant siblings. But
the erotic pleasure Adrian gives Emma is too delicious to refuse.

Although Jillian Hunter's The Devilish Pleasures of a Duke is part of
the Boscastle series, it can be read as a stand alone novel. That
being said, I urge everyone to read this entire series as it is
extremely enjoyable. In The Devilish Pleasures of a Duke I was very
amused by the lengths the Boscastle brothers were willing to go to
protect their sister's virtue. Whether she wanted her virtue
protected or not! I adored that Adrian was willing to risk Emma's
brothers' ire to be with her. My heart melted. The Devilish
Pleasures of a Duke is a sigh-inducing, sensual, blissfully good read!

So much promise, but falls flat on delivery.
I agree with other reviewers who thought that Emma fell into bed with Adrian a little too quickly for her established character. They fell in love too quickly on very little basis. He didn't seem to fall in love at first sight with Emma, though he found her interesting. Emma found him very attractive and began behaving out of character for her almost from go, so it could be argued that it was love at first sight for her even if she did not acknowledge it as such. There was little to no conflict in their "courtship". Her brothers threw hints at Adrian and made sure they weren't alone very often, but other than that? Where was the conflict? His family loved her instantly, despite the fact that they'd originally seemed set on him marrying someone else, the original intended posed no conflict to or even real jealousy for Emma, and the "scandal" that Emma seemed concerned might affect her school was marginal at best.

There was none of the intrigue and adventure that we've come to expect from the Boscastle books. I feel it is this that accounts for the lack of emotional depth between Emma and Adrian. A real let down considering that Adrian "The Wolf" Roxley was set up to be a real dashing hero what with his days as a mercenary and his murky familial past. He seemed primed for a doozey of a story. I was expecting maybe some enemy from his mercenary days or maybe a younger brother who felt he deserved the title and wanted Adrian out of the picture. I expected a little more fire from him. When they brought up his intended I thought there would be some conflict there for Emma. I also thought she'd put more effort into resisting Adrian, she being all that is proper. He was supposed to have to melt her. Shake her out of that prim persona and have her acting a little more like the other crazy Boscastles, but that never happened. This story did not live up to it's potential and I'm sorely disappointed. I'm another who's hoping that Gabriel gets his own story and that it is on par with the other Boscastle books, unlike this one.
Disappointing ending to a series
I was looking forward to this book having met Adrian during Chloe's story and, of course, Emma from all of the stories. Hardly any time was devoted to the relationship between Emma and Adrian - the focus was all over the board with interesting plot lines introduced and not going anywhere and a lot of things remained unresolved - did Julia have her baby? Did Chloe ever conceive again? What's up with Harriet and her past? Gabriel? he was starting to get very interesting. Why spend so much time on other characters when Adrian and Emma had so much potential? They spent most of the book apart and other than initial attraction, what else was there? All of the other books in this series were a lot of fun - the relationships well developed; this one was just a huge let down.
Fluffy, cute, sweet and I liked it!!!
I love the Boscastle series and although this wasn't the best I really enjoyed it.

Lacking a lot of the depth of the other books, but I really fell in love with Adrian and Emma. They were exactly what each other needed.

Yes, I do wish the characters had been more developed, but it was still a good read.

Editorial Reviews:
Award-winning author Jillian Hunter spins a captivating new tale of sweet mystery, reckless temptation, and scandalous desire.

Adrian Ruxley may be a ruggedly charming rogue, but he’s not a man to stand idly by while a lady is accosted–even at a wedding organized by the lady herself, Emma Boscastle, instructress in the social graces at her London academy for young gentlewomen. Adrian confronts the offender, a scuffle ensues, and now this smooth-talking heir is left to recuperate under Emma’s very roof, delighted to see the deep concern in her lovely face. She has a charm no scoundrel can resist.

Emma is scandalized by her own behavior–seduced by a handsome stranger, indeed! How will she be able to hide her indiscretion from the perceptive Boscastle siblings? The divine passion that Adrian has unleashed, and the sensual delights he has shown her, have suddenly turned Emma’s days at the fledgling academy into a display of impropriety and her nights into a velvet abyss of sensual abandon. But as their intimacy reveals Adrian’s turbulent secrets, Emma is inspired to her most ambitious endeavor: redeeming a rake.
